Detailed Itineraries

  • Trips begin early the first day.  We suggest, and can recommend, accommodations the night before and the night after the trip to assure smooth connections for your vacation.  We typically return from our trips by early evening of the last day.
  • The demands on participants change daily, but activities will be geared to the capabilities of the group.  Trip ratings are provided for guidance in determining the appropriate trip for you (or your group)
  • Most of the activities occur regardless of weather, but in the event of a rainout, there is always something to keep us active and excited.  Though the activities change on a daily basis, one constant is the outstanding food to help restore body and soul.
  • Several of our trips are geared to specific participants.  Please consult the key at the bottom of the page.
  • If you represent a group of 6 or more individuals, we can work with you to tailor a trip to suite the specific needs of your group.
  • If you have conflicts with our schedule, do not hesitate to contact us.  We will do our best to accommodate your specific needs.

Black Bear (Challenging)

This high adventure multisport trip allows you to enjoy a fast paced adventure. Traverse Maine from Portland in the south, to the mountains in the west, to America’s easternmost coastline, to the North Maine Woods. You will discover the thrill of mountain biking in challenging wooded terrain, rock climbing with ocean vistas. You will enjoy Sea Kayaking along the famous rocky Maine coast. Follow your saltwater adventure with an exhilarating whitewater trip down the West Branch of the Penobscot. Then hike Mt. Katahdin, the tallest mountain in Maine, climbing well above the tree line and taking in the panoramic views of Baxter State Park. Remember to ask your guides to point out the West Branch while you are standing on Katahdin!

Day 1

Rendezvous at Maine Path & Paddle Guides base in Windham, Maine. 8 a.m. depart for Parsonfield (Travel time 1 hr) Full day Mountain Biking • Travel to Camden, ME (Travel time 4 hrs) • Camp in Camden Hills State Park

Day 2

1/2 day Rock Climbing • Includes instruction, lunch and time to practice newly acquired skills • Camp in Camden Hills State Park

Day 3

Begin with a short hike or relax in Camden Hills • Travel to Saturday Cove, Northport, ME. (Travel time 1 hr) • Sea Kayak - Paddle and explore the sheltered islands in Penobscot Bay • Travel to Millinocket (Travel time 3 hrs) • Camp at Big Moose Inn and Campground

Day 4

Full day of Whitewater Rafting on the W Branch Penobscot River • Camp at Big Moose Inn and Campground

Day 5

Full day of Hiking Katahdin in Baxter State Park • Camp at Big Moose Inn and Campground • Return to Portland by 9 p.m. (Travel time 3.5 hrs)

An extended multisport adventure presents Maine’s scenic variety, balancing adventure activities with time to rest and relax. With the middle three days in northern Maine, there will be time to reflect on the activities and images of the day. It starts with mountain biking in the fresh air and rugged trails of western Maine. A day paddle on a remote lake in Northern Maine where moose are likely to be cooling off. Continue to Baxter State Park where we hike through the North Maine Woods, then leave them behind as you ascend Mt. Katahdin. Next, grab a paddle and start your whitewater trip down one of Maine's premier whitewater rivers. Finally, head for the ocean to enjoy a day of kayaking along the rugged coastline. By now, we hope you have built an appetite for a traditional Downeast Lobster Bake.

Rendezvous at Maine Path & Paddle base in Windham, ME • 8 a.m. departure for the White Mountains (Travel time 1 hr) - 1/2 day Mountain Bike • Travel to Millinocket (Travel time 4 hrs) • Camp at Big Moose Inn and Campground

Day 2

3/4 day canoeing on a quite lake in northern Maine • Relax, swim, and enjoy nature.

Day 3

Full day of Hiking Katahdin in Baxter State Park

Day 4

Full day of Whitewater Rafting - Either the Kennebec river or the Penobscot river • Travel to Stonington, ME (Travel time 2.5 hrs) • Camp at Old Quarry Campground

Day 5

Full day Sea Kayak • Paddle and explore the sheltered islands in Penobscot Bay • Return to Portland by 9 p.m. (Travel time 3.5 hrs)

Bull Moose (Challenging)

This four day, three night trip is a little shorter, but offers plenty of adventure! This is essentially the Black Bear trip without the rock climbing. Start right off pushing your mountain bike skills in the shadow of the White Mountains. In Penobscot Bay, sea kayak the tides where you may catch sight of a seal or an occasional whale. Raft the ‘Cribworks’ on the West Branch of the Penobscot as a part of your adrenaline pumping whitewater adventure. Head to Baxter State Park and climb to the ‘top of Maine’, Baxter Peak, on mile high Katahdin.

A sampling of Maine’s water sports. From the coastal islands in Penobscot Bay to the inland headwaters of Maine’s mighty rivers, this multisport adventure is sure to please your ‘inner paddler’. Sea kayak to Warren Island sheltered within the rugged coastline. The remote campsites on Warren Island offer stunning coastal vistas. Return to the mainland, leaving the double-bladed paddle behind. We head north to whitewater raft one of Maine’s deep river gorges.

Perfect for families, and folks who just want to relax, explore, and enjoy the beauty of Maine. Experience the interior Maine wilderness, and then explore the storied Maine coastline. Spend a day canoeing Lobster Lake, exploring its many features. Visit Baxter State park and enjoy the natural waterslide at "The Ledges", then hike part of the Appalachian Trail. Spend your last day near the coast hiking blue hill and exploring the rugged coastline.
